(SIXTEENTH ANNUAL SHOW)
2008
The sixteenth annual Breed Show of the British Miniature Horse Society, including the twelfth International Supreme Champion of Champions, was held in glorious sunshine on Saturday 30th August at Stretcholt Equestrian Centre, Bridgwater in Somerset for the second year running.
Three outdoor rings and a jumping arena were well filled throughout the day which opened with three Horse of the Year Show qualifying classes, with wins going to MH Apollo shown by Julian Quiney in the three years and over stallions class, Nehi Chinchee May shown by Mrs Yaxley in the three years and over mares and geldings class and Baby Doll shown by Danielle McDaid in the Yearlings and Two year old class. The champion in the HOYS section was MH Apollo with the reserve going to Baby Doll.
In the Breed Championship classes the winners were as follows:-
Four old colts – Kilcummer Alamo owned by Mrs Edgar
Four year old geldings – Mainestar Bluegrass owned by Danielle McDaid
Four year old mares – Meadowfox Tapestry owned by Mrs Wellstead
Champion – Kilcummer Alamo and the reserve was Mainestar Bluegrass.
Three year old colts and geldings – Supreme Dream Inspirational Black Knight owned by Mrs S Davies
Three year old mares – Scott Creek My key to Fashion owned by Sir & Lady King
Champion – Scott Creek My Key to Fashion and the reserve was Apollos Joy
Two year old colts and geldings – Aesthete Jack Frost owned by Mrs Barnard
Two year old mares – Strike A Little Star owned by Carol Lindsey
Champion – Aesthete Jack Frost and the reserve was Strike A Little Star.
Yearling colts and geldings – Stretcholt Goliath owned by Mrs Edgar
Yearling fillies – Alamos Buttercup owned by Mr & Mrs Parsons
Champion – Stretcholt Goliath and the reserve was Alamos Buttercup
As well as the BMHS Breed Championships, there were also open classes which allowed unregistered horses to compete along side registered horses. The champion in this section was Aesthete Jack Frost shown by Chloe Barnard and the reserve was Fallen Ash Scouts Spellbound shown by Kathy Phillips.
Meanwhile in the indoor arena, celebrity judge Virginia Peters was judging and helping competitors with their Dressage, which was won by Kathy Leppard and Kathy Phillips.
The three judges consisting of Lizzie Briant, John Harvey and Greer Tavener then moved to the indoor arena for the evening performance. Youngest competitor Briony Hawkins who had earlier won the ridden class riding Zealshouse Romantic Duet, went on to win the fancy dress as Alice in Wonderland with “Tullabelle” as the white rabbit.
A three generation group headed by Winners Circle Jupiter won the progeny class, and the Grand Champion of the day was won by Aesthete Jack Frost, owned by Mrs Barnard and shown by Chloe Barnard. Chloe also went on to win the overall points championship of the day.
The final class of the day was the Supreme Champion of Champions open to horses who had won championships at affiliated shows throughout the year. This was won by MH Apollo an eight year old black stallion shown by Julian Quiney.
