The Royal International
Horse Show
(RIHS)

The Official
Show of the British Horse Society
The BMHS is the ONLY Miniature Horse society to hold classes at this renowned horse show. It is one of the oldest shows, running continuously since 1907 with the exception of the First and Second World War years. It has seen many famous horses grace its rings including the great showjumpers Foxhunter, Stroller, Mr Softee and many more.

It is held at the end of July at the All England Jumping Course, Hickstead, West Sussex where it has had its home for many years.

Qualifying for this show usually takes place in March, April and May at a selection of countrywide venues. Competition is keen as it’s only 1st and 2nd placed horses of each class that gains the qualification, so to compete at RIHS is quite an achievement.

At the RIHS Miniature Horse classes are held on Ladies day, Saturday, of this great six day show. The public come out in force to enjoy a full programme of International Show Jumping and Showing in the many arenas on offer. The Miniature Horse classes are held in the morning with the winners of each class being crowned champion, receiving unique satin sashes and beautiful rosettes.

The Supreme Championship is held in the famous International Arena in front of the Member’s Enclosure and is open to all 1st and 2nd prize winners. While this is going on all Miniature Horse competitors are invited to parade around the five acre International Arena to allow the public to see them. This is a wonderful opportunity to walk on the hallowed turf with your horse and soak up the atmosphere to the full.
It is very exciting waiting in the collecting ring for the Supreme Championship and parade. Lots of people are interested in the Miniatures as many have never seen them before.

It’s not unusual to have your photo taken by an Olympic Show Jumper one minute and a child on a day out with the family the next. Its always good to talk about your horses to fellow enthusiasts.
