Part Bred Register

The Part Bred register is an appendix to the main BMHS Studbook. This register is open to horses with one proven BMHS registered parent and one non-registered parent. Horses must be born in the UK. If the registered parent is the sire, he must be fully licenced. Horses are assessed with successful ones being eligible for registration subject to vetting and measurement (must be at or below the maxi height of 92cms). Fees for registration are dependent on the percentage achieved at assessment. (List of all BMHS fees is on the ‘Downloads’ button on this website).

Registered part bred horses are eligible to be shown in BMHS affiliated classes, thus able to enter RIHS and HOYS qualifiers, once appropriate levies have been paid. Owners and handlers must be members of the BMHS. To enter these classes horses must be 87cms or under, according to age. (Full height chart is on this website under ‘Showing’).
Offspring of registered Part Bred horses are eligible to be registered on the full studbook as long as the other parent is on the full studbook.

Assessment

Horses will be assessed at a minimum charge of £50 (dependent on venue charges). After assessment, to continue with the registration process, a further £50 is required to cover the cost of a DNA sample of the horse. This payment can either be made on the day of assessment or at a later date. Horses must also be vetted. This is arranged between the owner and their vet at the owner’s expense. Forms are applied for from the BMHS office.

Part Bred assessment fees all begin at £800 for all horses, HOWEVER, dependent on the horse’s score, will be greatly reduced in the following manner:
                                                   61 – 70% full fee is payable (£800)
71 – 80% three quarters of the fee is payable (£600)
                                                   81 – 90% half the fee is payable (£400)
91 – 100% quarter of the fee is payable (£200)

Applications for the Part Bred register must be sent to the office with a non-returnable admin fee of £10 so that eligibility can be checked before booking an assessment. Any photocopies of passports or proof of breeding should be sent in at this point. Application forms are available in the ‘Downloads’ button on this site.
